Is Thandel Based On A True Story?
Naga Chaitanya revealed that “Thandal” is based on true events from 2018. A group of fishermen from Andhra Pradesh crossed into an area of Pakistani waters because of navigation problems and were caught.
He mentioned that he has been associated with this film for a long time, and it’s something very close to him since he acted in a character never before.
Normally, these fishermen used to haul in the waters of Gujarat, but this time, they drifted into Pakistan and were caught. He says the movie is also about a love story based on those real events.
Chaitanya also said he met the fishermen from Srikakulam who went through this scary experience. He explained that the love story in the movie is based on one of their love stories. The movie is about their time in jail for a year and a half and how they eventually got out.
He thinks it’s an inspiring story. He spent time with these fishermen and learned all about what they went through. The real-life couple from the story are now married.
The fisherman’s wife fought for them and convinced the government to bring them back to India. Chaitanya’s happy he gets to tell this story.
