“Ramayana: “The Legend of Prince Rama”, the 1993 Japanese-Indian animated movie is set to be released in Indian theatres from January 24, said its distributors on Wednesday.
The animated feature film was earlier planned for theatrical release in new Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs alongside the original English, in the 4K format on October 18, 2024, but got postponed due to some reasons.
“Ramayana: ‘The Legend of Prince Rama’ is released for India by Geek Pictures India, AA Films & Excel Entertainment.
The co-founder of Geek Pictures India, Arjun Aggarwal, added that everyone involved was honored to present such a widely recognized work to people.
He further said that “working with the best and translating the series into multiple languages, became our goal to warm hearts all across India.“
This is not simply a film, it’s a celebration of our culture wherein we carry forward the legacy across generations and our rich Indian art showcased through Japanese anime says Aggarwal.
Earlier, Geek Picture India stated it had postponed the release with the intent to ensure the film could be watched in many more theaters.

“Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama” is directed by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki.
For the earlier Hindi version of Ramayan, Arun Govil played Ram’s voice, Namrata Sawhney voiced Sita, and Amrish Puri did the voice of Raavan. Shatrughan Sinha who is an accomplished actor of B-Town was the narrator for this documentary.
Award-winning screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad who wrote ‘Baahubali’, ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, and ‘RRR’ has curated the adaptation of this new version of the film.
It was liked by Indian audiences when it was again aired on TV channels in the early 2000s.
