Aaman Devgn and Rasha Thadani’s much-hyped ‘Azaad’ is nothing less than a 2 hr 25 min torture. The classic 90s upper-class girl, underprivileged boy, falling in love that is too poorly made isn’t something one expects when the daughter of 90s star actress Raveena Tandon, Rasha Thadani, and nephew of another respected actor Ajay Devgn, Aaman Devgn are making their debut in movies.
Can’t deny the fact that when ‘Uyi Amma’ was released, the expectations of everyone got elevated because let’s face it, who doesn’t want to watch the classic story with some massive numbers? However, ‘Azaad’ couldn’t serve that purpose as well.

Azaad Storyline, Screenplay & Direction
Set in the pre-independence era, the film tells the story of a ‘stable boy’ played by Amaan who is fascinated with riding a black horse named ‘Azaad,’ whose present owner is Vikram Singh played by Ajay Devgn. Rasha Thadani, on the other hand, played the role of Janki, who is the daughter of landlord Rai Bahadur played by Piyush Mishra. There is another love track of Janki’s brother Tej Bahadur played by Mohit Malik and Kesar played by Diana Penty.
A lot is happening in the movie without any coherence or beat. Can’t believe the film is directed by Abhishek Kapoor who has earlier given us films like ‘Kai Po Che!’ and ‘Kedarnath.’ It felt like the director lost interest during the course of making ‘Azaad.’ Classic tales hardly go wrong in Hindi cinema but ‘Azaad’ did.
Another important point to note here is that three people Ritesh Shah, Suresh Nair, and Chandan Arora wrote the screenplay together and yet managed to spoil it. Or it could be a classic case of “Too many chefs spoil the broth.”
The screenplay was so loose that it felt like the movie was never-ending. The story of ‘Azaad’ is not so bad and could have been handled nicely but there is no grip in the screenplay and the movie seemed dull.

Rasha Thadani & Amaan Devgn
Rasha Thadani already became the audience’s favorite with her popular dance number ‘Uyi Amma’ but in the film, she didn’t have much to do.
We all can agree that Rasha has mastered the art of giving expressions but acting is way more than that and it would be interesting to note which roles she chooses in the future.
Aaman on the other hand also has everything, looks, a good body, and good connections in the film industry, what needs to be focused on is the craft which was not so bad but also not up to the mark.
Azaad Movie Review
Take One Filmy Verdict
Instead of watching ‘Azaad’ in theatres, you can watch ‘Uyi Amma’ on repeat on any streaming platform or even the promotional interviews of the lead cast of the movie. That will give you more entertainment. Despite having all the ingredients for being a nice period drama, ‘Azaad’ fails to deliver entertainment.
