Romy Mathis and Tensile Automation is a Fictional Character and Company
According to the Director and story writer, Halina Reijn, Babygirl is a work of pure fiction. The story, characters, and places shown are entirely imaginary. The company she works for is formed to support the plot of the movie Babygirl.
However, Halina said that it is not a real story but Babygirl follows the story of real women, who balanced their personal and professional lives. Many real-life events pushed Halina to draft a story of a woman, who achieved everything but trying to figure out what she really wants. And this idea became a rough draft and later morphed into ‘Babygirl.’
One of Halina’s friends shared with her that she never had been satisfied physically in her 25 years of marriage. This wasn’t shocking at all for Halina because she knows women don’t open up about their s*xual and otherwise desires. Babygirl is based on the idea of how a woman can handle everything caught in a loop where she lives a life for others by killing all her desires. Halina further said that the struggle to acknowledge desires is very big as sexuality is one aspect that a woman is judged instantly for.
