For yet another time, we are about to witness the power duo, Bollywood superstar Randeep Hooda and Sam Hargrave. They are reunited for an upcoming action thriller “Matchbox” after their successful hit 2020 Netflix film, “Extraction.”
Matchbox stars John Cena, a wrestler turned actor, and Teyonah Parris. Jessica Biel and Sam Richardson are also a part of the Starcast. The film adapts Mattel’s famous die-cast matchbox toy vehicles. Randeep Hooda has already joined the Budapest filmection where production is actively underway.
“Matchbox” is going to be an interesting story that follows a group of childhood friends. They must work together to stop a global disaster and rediscover their friendship.
Sam Hargrave is the director of the upcoming project ‘Matchbox’. The script is based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall (“The Family Plan,” “Orphan: David Coggeshall (“Orphan: First Kill”) and Jonathan Tropper (working on both “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “The Adam Project”) serve as writers for this production.
Producers David Ellison of Skydance joins forces with Dana Goldberg along with Don Granger and Robbie Brenner under the banner of Mattel Films for the film’s production.
The film is inspired by Mattel’s popular toy vehicles lineup. They were invented in 1953 by automotive fan Jack Odell. Odell’s daughter could take a toy to school if it fits in a matchbox. When her classmates clamored for their own “matchbox car,” the brand was born. Today, Mattel reports, two Matchbox cars are sold every second worldwide.
“Excited to be working with Sam again. We had a great time on our first collaboration with ‘Extraction,’” Hooda said in a statement. “Sam is a master of high-octane storytelling and action. Glad to be joining the team in Budapest.”
Hargrave is a stunt coordinator. He is known for Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame,” “Infinity War,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” and DC’s “Suicide Squad.” He recently directed “Extraction 2.” In his first project with Hooda, the Indian actor stood out as Saju. He shared the screen with Chris Hemsworth.
Hooda, who both directed and starred in “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” in 2024, is active in India’s film industry. He is filming “Jaat” under director Gopichand Malineni, with Sunny Deol.

Matchbox Movie Release Date
There has been no disclosure about the release date of the movie Matchbox starring Randeep Hooda and John Ceena yet. The filming locations, cast, and release date are yet to be announced by the makers.
We have seen both Randeep Hooda and John Cena in action thrillers before. No doubt both actors are phenomenal in their own way. Watching them together on the big screen is definitely going to be an interesting binge!
